Okutama Deck House is a small timber guest house in the mountainous western part of Tokyo Metropolis, roughly two hours from the centre by train. Six rooms share two decks cut into the slope above the water.
Meals are a set breakfast and an optional set dinner, both cooked by the owners. Facilities are deliberately minimal: no lift, no room service, and a shared lounge with a wood stove in place of a bar.
Trailheads for the ridge walks start a few minutes from the door, and the station is a short drive that the house covers on request. Nights are cold outside summer, and the open-deck room is seasonal for that reason.
