Cookie Policy

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device. When you return, the browser sends it back, which lets the site recognise the same visit or the same device.

Cookies cannot read other files on your device or run programs. What they can do is hold a small piece of information — a session identifier, a preference, an analytics identifier — that a site uses to work properly or to measure how it is used.

We use cookies for two reasons: to make the website function correctly, and to understand in aggregate how it is used so that we can improve it.

We do not use cookies to build a personal profile of you, and we do not sell information gathered through them.

The cookies our website may set fall into the categories below. Only the essential category is required for the site to work; the others exist to improve it.

Where we use an analytics service, it records page views, approximate location derived from an IP address, device and browser type, and the path taken through the site. This is reported to us as aggregated statistics.

We use that information to decide which pages need work, to find broken journeys and to see whether a change improved things. It is not used to identify individual visitors or to make decisions about a particular person.

Some cookies are set by services we embed rather than by us directly — for example, an analytics provider, an embedded map or a payment page. Those providers set their own cookies under their own policies.

We do not control third-party cookies and cannot switch them off on your behalf. Where you want to know what a provider does with the data it collects, read that provider's own cookie and privacy policy.

Browsers also offer storage mechanisms that work like cookies without being cookies, including local storage, session storage and small tracking pixels embedded in a page or an email.

Where we use these, we use them for the same limited purposes described above, and this policy covers them. A tracking pixel in an email tells us whether a message was opened, which helps us know whether an important booking notification reached you.

Session cookies exist only while your browser is open and are deleted when you close it. Persistent cookies remain for a defined period so that a preference or an analytics identifier survives between visits.

Lifetimes vary by purpose and by provider: a session identifier lasts minutes or hours, a preference typically months, and an analytics identifier is usually set for a period defined by the analytics service. You can delete any of them at any time from your browser.

Every major browser lets you see the cookies stored, delete them, block cookies from particular sites, or block them all. The controls sit under settings, usually within a privacy or site-data section.

You can also browse in a private or incognito window, which discards cookies when the window is closed. Browser help pages describe the exact steps for the version you are using.

Blocking analytics or preference cookies does not stop you using the website; you will simply not be counted in our statistics, and the site will not remember your choices between visits.

Blocking essential cookies is different. Forms may fail to submit, sessions may not persist between pages and some functions may stop working. If part of the site misbehaves after you change cookie settings, that is usually the cause.

Some cookie identifiers may count as personal information under the law that applies to you, because they can be linked to a device over time.

Where that is the case, the commitments in our Privacy Policy apply to them: we use them only for the purposes described, we do not sell them, and you can ask us about the information we hold.

We may update this policy when we add or remove a service that sets cookies, or when the law changes. The revision date on this page shows when it was last changed.

If we introduce a category of cookie that is materially different from those described here, we will update this page before or at the time we start using it.
